Kaisen-don

Kaisen-don (Seafood don)

Kaisen-don is what every tourist who goes to Hokkaido and dream about eating aside from the famous Miso ramen. Kaisen means seafood and it has various different kinds of raw seafood being put on top of a bowl of rice. Kaisen-don always comes with wasabi and soy sauce. According to the locals, the correct way of eating a Kaisen don is first, put the wasabi into the soy sauce. Second is to mix it well enough until the soy sauce and wasabi becomes a milky green coloured liquid. Last but not least is to pour this yummy goodness over the seafood itself and bon appetite.

This is a Kaisen don (Uni and Ikura) teishoku (set meal) which I had at a restaurant near Nijo Fish Market in Sapporo
