Hokkaido Ramen Part One
Jigoku Ramen & Butter Corn Miso Ramen
15.09.2015
The most notable ramen in Hokkaido probably is Miso ramen. Everyone come from all around Japan to savour this delicious dish. However to people in Hokkaido, Miso ramen is just one out of many different types of ramen flavours in Hokkaido. If you move towards Asahikawa, they are famous for shoyu flavour ramen and if you move further down south to Hakodate, shio flavour is the flavour there. However in this post I will be talking about two kinds of ramen you can find in Sapporo. The first one will be Jigoku ramen and the second one will be the Butter Corn Miso ramen.
Jigoku ramen, it literally transliterate into Hell ramen. The soup is spicy and if the spice is no enough for you they have different level of spiciness for you to choose from. The toppings are basically what you would find in Hokkaido, a ton of different kinds of seafood and spring onions as toppings.

The second ramen I would like to introduce is the Butter Corn Miso Ramen. Everyone knows how good the taste is when you put butter and corn together. Now try adding as a topping to Miso ramen and the explosion of flavour will burst wildly in your mouth (in a good way). The richness of the miso based soup goes along well with the butter being melted into the corn and soup. In fact I do think that the butter melting into the soup enriches the flavour of the miso making everything come together well. Aside from the butter and corn, you have your normal ramen toppings such as chashu pork and some veggies.

PS: I will come back at a later point in time to talk about Part 2 of Hokkaido Ramen. I will be talking about the Shoyu based ramen in Asahikawa and the Shio based ramen in Hakodate.
